Check out my interview with EMTheories.com

EM THEORIES: Can you tell the people your name and where it derives from?

DRIFTEE: As a child I secretly toyed with the notion of becoming a professional Hip Hop Artist. I wanted to name myself something significant and I wanted the name to be similar to my given name (Adrienne). So I looked in the dictionary and came across the word Adrift. The word Adrift has a somewhat negative connotation but so did my wanting to be a rapper, at least according to my parents. My first ‘stage’ name was Adrift Discourse. I dont like to tell people that. That name was corny..It had to go...

Microphone check - yeah one two checka!

This week we are featuring the one the only NELAC Beats! Some of you know this talented dude as Lyrical Preacher...you know the dude with the Chinese straw hat that rips stages from Apache to Club Crucial... Well, he sent me a joint called 'This One's for Dilla' for the Drift Chronicles project. That shyt was so fiiii...yeah 'fiiiii' (pronounced fy-re)... I recorded a lil sumthin called 'What Up Friend' to it...sort of an ode to all my homegirls in NJ, NY and Atl....

Mr. Lyrical 'Nelac Beats' Preacher recently answered a few questions for your girl..check his Q&A below...

#BELLE100 CONCERT SERIES - SUMMER EDITION

It is becoming harder and harder for indie artist in the Atlanta area to find venues to showcase their talent. Three years ago you couldn't walk through lil 5 Points and not get a flyer for some up and comer's event. These days - not so much. In an attempt to somewhat revitalize the indie artist scene in ATL; Street Execs, Apache Cafe and I decided to put on a series of showcase called the #Belle100 Concert Series. Shows will take place once a quarter and will feature artist I respect, admire and listen to in real life.

The Summer Edition will feature performances by Phene, Twanee Baby, Small Eyez, Stanza, Sidestreet Ked, and Adrift Da Belle; and wil be hosted by Fort Knox and Sonny Gillespie. Fans are sure to enjoy a great night of music from start to finish.

Drift Chronicles: The Producers ~ Trak Specialist

And the beat goes on!!

I'm on a mission to showcase the producers that help me make great music...

Drifters meet Trak Specialist, the genius behind Drift Chronicles' 'What Do I Want'

Per previous post, Drift Chronicles was a group effort. Meaning, an artist is truly only as good as their production. Bad production can make a great artist sound mediocre and great production can get a shitty artist a grammy. (Dont believe me -- roll the video tape)

So what happens when there is a meeting of the minds? Glad you asked, tracks like Trak Specialist's produced 'What Do I Want' from Drift Chronicles is what happens. This is another one of my favorites (check my Stupid Dope interview where I explained that this is my favorite project-period). I loved the beat from first listen. This was one of those beats that I got and recorded immediately.
Trak Specialist
'What Do I Want' was another joint that I got from Karol Russell, again didn't know what to expect just wanted to do something different than what I usually do. Enter Trak Specialist with that infectious ass bass line that urged me to purge...I was turnt up from first play.

He a bad man yall!!

Drift Chronicles: The Producers ~ The Stonejonzon Project

"It's about production baby - uh huh yeah"
(In my Diddy/Puffy/or Whateva he goes by now - voice)

I know ... Im  corny sometimes...its cool long as I aint lame.. HA!

The Stonejonzon Project

Next up on Driftee's blog couch is The Stonejonzon Project. These dudes are freggin amazing. They are an Alternative Hip Hop group by day and a Production team by night. Soooo, they're kinda like music superheros. If you dont know who Simon Stone (the artist), Heavy Mojo (the band), or Mista Jonzin (the Dj /Producer) are I would suggest you seriously consider expanding your musical horizons. There's a big world out here boys and girls!

The Stonejonzon Project produced another one of my favorites from Drift Chronicles Die/Frontin.  I must admit the first time I heard it I was taken aback. In fact, it took a while for me to record it because it invoked feelings of Jersey - some good ones and some bad ones..It worked out for the best though..

Check below for my Q&A with Simon Stone of The Stonejonzon Project

Drift Chronicles: The Producers ~ 8Track

Drift Chronicles has been getting so much love! Thank you all... It wasn't an all Driftee show though...during the next few weeks I will be introducing you to the men behind the music - the producers - via a brief Q & A complete with pics, contact info and links to their music.

8Track

The first producer is 8Track, a caribbean production monster who was introduced to me by our lawyer Karol Russell.

8Track's music is the exemplification of creative diversity.  Our lawyer sent me a beat file that contained tracks from several producers. I picked what seemed to be stellar opposites in an attempt to give Drift Chronicles a more universal appeal. I soon learned that  the very tracks I thought were sooooo different were produced by the same man. That's dope.

8Track produced two of my favorite tracks on the mixtape -- Welcome and R.A.W  (SN: R.A.W are 8Track's initials - I didnt know that when I wrote the song - hell of a coincidence right). And, he is a cool humble, down to earth dude. Check out our Q&A below.

This labor of love...

What up people...how yous doing? Im gearing up to shoot 5 music videos over the next few weeks and to to tell you the truth... i aint excited... this music is truly a labor of love..if your heart aint it - you shouldnt be....i guess im feeln some sort of way today...this is mos def one of those days when i feel myself being over music and the memories of a cubicle, business suit and bi-weekly pay start to be fond ones...i shutter at the thought of giving up though..thats what this shyt does to you...you get tired of it.

i met a guy at the beer fest last sat who told me his story..he was chasing his dream, opening for popular acts, deal on the table;  when it all began to be too much for him... so now he develops artist and writes for others..he said he got frustrated with the politics and grind of it all...im noticing that this is the sentiment of a lot of my peers these days...5 years ago we had ferver for this...we were down for whatever..now alot of us are like "maaan, imma make my music and if you like it - you like it". Thats how its suppose to be - but i cant help but wonder if the climate of today's music industry (content, deteriorating skill levels, etc) has made it so truly talented artist dont have a chance...its as if some of us are (dare i say)  too fuckin good to be apart of todays music climate!! Not my words...those are my cousins words..we sat and discussed the different types of music and what constitues real vs. regular hip hop ... he said those in his circle call Wiz Khalifa Real Hip Hop...while those in my circle consider J. Cole, and Big K.R.I.T real hip hop...when i mentioned J. Cole cuzzo responded " oh, J. Cole should be outta here but to some he just to fuckin good"... we laughed at the irony of that quite possibly being the case and sighed at the same time cuz sadly thats really the fuckin case...

Shyt is frustrating B!

if you like me though you wont give up ..maybe i will ..ok maybe not completely..at least i hope i wont...time will tell

lets go back in time...to my videos of yesteryear ...join me as i inspire myself to press on and prep for this video shoot marathon im about to embark on...sssseeeesshhhhh!!!!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Street Executives Presents:

Adrift Da Belle
Drift Chronicles mixtape Release Party

ATLANTA [5.7.12] - Street Executives present Adrift Da Belle’s "Drift Chronicles"Release Party on May 10, 2012, sponsored by Raw Roots, The Mad Bloggers, The Fembassy, and Jayforce. Join this live exhibition of music at Indigo Bar [619 Edgewood Ave SE, Atlanta, GA. 30312] from 11 p.m onwards.

After the huge success of her listening party, Adrift Da Belle invites you all to join her for the official release of the Drift Chronicles mixtape.
Drift Chronicles, which drops 5.8.12  - is already being hailed as some of the rapper's most ground breaking work to date. As Adrift Da Belle has averted from the underground/boombap hip-hop to a more universally palatable sound, a sound that has been well received from her long term supporters and those who attended the Listening Party last month on 4.26.12.

I think this is a complete project. Few artists have the ability to create something with mass appeal but still maintain their authenticity like Adrift does with this mixtape. ” - Soulaesthetic

“"We also attended a mixtape listening session for the Adrift Da Belle’s, a local artist here in Atlanta.  It was definitely entertaining as hell to say the least…" - Dead End Hip Hop

Drift Chronicles !!!!!

Drift Chronicles drops on 5/8...I've been told this is my best project to date. I'm proud of that. As an artist I strive to get better and better. I finally have a team that understands and supports me and my vision, for that I am so thankful . It's hard sometimes to pursue a dream. Doing so alone makes it unbearable. Just when I was ready to give up, God sent me a team. God is so good! (Street Execs/True Talent - Wooot!! Wooot!!)

I gave you more Adrift Da Belle the person than Adrift Da Belle the lyricist this time. Its great to be dope - its a blessing to touch people on a human level. No matter our color, creed, sex, gender, orientation - the fact of the matter is we all go through the same shit in ways relative to our personal lives. So this project "chronicles" what I've been going through since my last full length album (Garden State Parkway)... The good, bad and the ugly...

Dont cry for me Argentina, Im doing well!  I own Kookarooos!! (hahaha)

Check out the first single R.A.W. and tell a friend to tell a friend to Download Drift Chronicles on 5/8 (FREE)...my gift to all of you ... XO, Drift

I Got Next Showcase ATL

Soooo OK, as an professional recording artist...its sometimes hard to audition for shows and/or be asked to sell tickets when you could very well book a club and get the door or at least a profitable door split. But yo, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. My ppls sent me this message telling me about these auditions so since i was fresh off the success of being one of hundreds chosen for the 1 Mic Cypher show...I decided why not...

The audition was for a chance to perform for Lenny S (VP, A&R, Def Jam) and Omar Grant (Director, A&R, Roc Nation)  next Sunday at De Ja Vu in Atlanta, GA...fair enough right...right..So, of course I made it...now they want me to sell tickets...i mean we all know the game....

Check out what Lenny S and Omar Grant have to say about this Sunday's Showcase/Competition....

The tickets are $20 and can be purchased when you see me or via Paypal  or if you happen to see me on the street this week... I prefer pay pal though...

Click the Pay pal button below to buy tickets or got to paypal.com and send a gift to me using my paypal email address (adriftdabelle@gmail.com)

Always Remeber...

No, not familiar...here ya go!

Still I Rise

By Maya Angelou

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
’Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
