Drift Chronicles: The Producers ~ Trak Specialist

And the beat goes on!!

I'm on a mission to showcase the producers that help me make great music...

Drifters meet Trak Specialist, the genius behind Drift Chronicles' 'What Do I Want'

Per previous post, Drift Chronicles was a group effort. Meaning, an artist is truly only as good as their production. Bad production can make a great artist sound mediocre and great production can get a shitty artist a grammy. (Dont believe me -- roll the video tape)

So what happens when there is a meeting of the minds? Glad you asked, tracks like Trak Specialist's produced 'What Do I Want' from Drift Chronicles is what happens. This is another one of my favorites (check my Stupid Dope interview where I explained that this is my favorite project-period). I loved the beat from first listen. This was one of those beats that I got and recorded immediately.
Trak Specialist
'What Do I Want' was another joint that I got from Karol Russell, again didn't know what to expect just wanted to do something different than what I usually do. Enter Trak Specialist with that infectious ass bass line that urged me to purge...I was turnt up from first play.

He a bad man yall!!

Check out our Q&A Below

When did you know that you wanted to be a producer? Was there a song or moment that confirmed it for you?

Well growing up I was always surrounded by music. My Dad had a reggae band and i would always be running around his rehearsals beating on instruments then also growing up in New Orleans 7th ward neighborhood Jazz second lines and Rap DJ's were a every weekend thing so I notice how music influence people moods and movements. Finally doing the mid 90's I was a big Cash Money fan mainly because of the production

"Mannie Fresh". I was a big Mannie Fresh fan that's what exposed me to Production side of Rap. That sparked my interest in researching the Greats like Pete Rock, Dr. Dre, J. Dilla ect. That's when my love for production started.

What other artist do you work with?

I work with Nesby Phips, Young Greatness, Squares, Christian Michaels and a lot of new upcoming local acts

What are your thoughts on the the state of urban music today?

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Urban music is the lack of originality. Most artist coming up today have the perception that they have to make music that's popular or recreate the sound of other successful artist to be successful.

The reality is that an Artist that creates an original sound and build a solid fan base can have more success and longevity then a artist that's following the next new thing.

What was your initial reaction when hearing  'What Do I Want' from Drift Chronicles?

I was blown away by the song and the concept..The Soul of the Lyrics..The Honesty in the words..A very personal and intimate song.

"What do I Want?' is a question we all ask ourself one time or another so It was a song that I can relate to
It bought me Joy to know that my music triggered a creative expression of such deep feelings
